This is the last time that Dr Barry Wright will be penning our Pastor's Piece.  His article on being joyful, praying and giving thanks will be his last, as he is retiring at the end of the year and we will have a new Pastor next year.

This is the tenth online magazine in a row that we have had an article from John Morris.  As usual he relates personal experiences and draws a spiritual lesson as he looks at challenges conquered.

There was an article in the On-line version of the Adventist Review (the world church paper for the Seventh-day Adventist Church).  It was entitled "The Allure of Modesty".  See http://www.adventistreview.org/article.php?id=2862 (unless it has gone by the time this is published).  The writer's opening comment was "Men are drawn to female modesty despite our culture's bold declaration to the contrary. Most women can probably think of a time when their own modest behaviour elicited a sense of awe from men in our otherwise leering, lewd society."   While I could not find anything in the article with which I disagreed I did have an uncomfortable feeling that it was supporting the idea that the behaviour of men can be conditioned by the way women dress and act, and that makes me uncomfortable for surely men should be responsible for their own actions.  I sent the link to our article writer Erica Green to see what her comments would be.  As it had happened she had been greatly stirred by a statement on a very closely related subject and her article in this issue is the result.  I suppose that any article on this subject is going to raise feelings, but I am publishing it to see what you think.

Another regular writer is our church historian Denis Jenkins, and in this issue he talks more about the great Scottish reformer, John Knox.

This is the 32nd issue of our on-line magazine and it is thus the sixth time there has been a December/January dateline.  But we have never had an article on Christmas.  Since I was an article short I decided that I would write a Christmas article myself.  It is a short piece but I hope it will start you thinking.
