Children of the Himalayas by Diane Bell

On the 12 December 1999, Diane Bell - a social worker - had a dream from God.  Diane dreamed that she was walking with other medical and social work professionals along a narrow and winding path in a mountainous area with beautiful green trees.  As they walked they climbed higher and higher.  In the dream she felt she was on her way to a selection process.  She was then on her way back, and she was asking but where are we - the answer came - 'On Top of the World'

Still not knowing what she was being asked to do - she asked her work for a years absence.  Prayer partners had told her that the Himalayas is known as the Top of the World.

Diane began researching the Christian bodies working in this area, she was offered a job with INF which she accepted and so began her mission to the children of Nepal.  As a social worker Diane was well equipped to introduce the idea of foster care for the estimated 30,000 street children - more than half of these children were classified as 'untouchables'.  The results did not come quickly or without prayer and effort.  Diane moved between England and Nepal continually, establishing WIN Nepal to rescue these vulnerable children.

In 2009 Diane was diagnosed with breast cancer, just as she was planning a trip back to Nepal.  It was not until 2012 that Diane was strong enough to return to Nepal.  During this time Diane attended Bible College, this allowed her to draw closer to God.  Meanwhile back in Nepal the people she had inspired continued their work with the children of the street.

The work continued to expand despite earthquakes, opposition from people in power and persecution of Christians.

The book has the stories of individual children, how this ministry has given them a life with food and love, and how they have accepted Jesus as their Saviour.  Some of these children are now working for this ministry and helping the children as they were once helped.

This book shows that God calls people from normal walks of life, and God equips them to reach much higher levels of service to Him then they would ever have dreamed of.
