Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young

 
This is a devotional book written by Sarah Young.

Sarah Young and her husband were missionaries for the Presbyterian Church, ministering to people of Japanese heritage, and were residing in Perth when this book was written.

The book is compiled from Sarah's prayer journals, reflections of her quiet time with GOD.

Sarah has written multiple books and has sold more than 10 million books worldwide, Jesus Calling in 2013 received ECPA Christian Book of the Year Award.  For people who are more attuned to using their phones or computers rather than books, Jesus Calling is also available on iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and all Android devices.

The introduction to the book written by Sarah, gives us a glimpse of her life, her journey with GOD, and the background to the writing of this book.  The themes of thankfulness and trust are recurring throughout the book, as they are also found in the Bible.  For us to have a close relationship with GOD we need to have trust and thankfulness.

The daily devotions are only short - most are only 1-2 paragraphs.  The devotionals are written in the first person, and it is as though GOD is speaking to the reader personally. The words 'I', 'Me', 'My', and 'Mine' always refers to Jesus; whilst 'You' refers to the reader.  Each devotion is written as though God is speaking directly and then at the end there is two or three Bible texts that are listed to be looked up.  The devotions are meant to be read slowly, and in a quiet place.  It is your time alone with GOD with no outside interruptions.

To give you a taste of this book the following is the devotional for January 27 :-

TRUST IS THE GOLDEN PATHWAY TO HEAVEN.

When you walk on this path you live above your circumstances. 
My glorious Light shines more brightly on those who follow this path of Life.
Dare to walk on the high road with Me, for it is the most direct route to heaven.
The low road is circuitous; twisting and turning in agonizing knots.
There the air hangs heavy - and dark, ominous clouds predominate.
Relying on your own understanding will weigh you down
Trust in me absolutely, and I will make your path straight.
John 14:1-2      Proverbs 3:5-6

This book will help you experience a deeper relationship with Jesus as you experience His presence through listening to Him talking directly to you.
